CLACTON & DISTRICT MENCAP
Clacton and District Mencap has operated from St Andrews Hall for over thirty years.
The Committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month to discuss new policies, problems that have arisen with our own clients and members, training days and future leisure activities for our 100+ Clients.
We hold a Leisure Club at the hall every Thursday, where the clients engage in sports evenings, karaoke, disco's etc. We hold barbecues, Valentine suppers and similar events and have recently engaged in a sports day with our clients and other regional groups at Chelmsford, which proved very successful. We are also hoping to restart our dancing and keep fit classes.
Clacton and District Mencap's Chair is Miss Jan Howard. We also have a Welfare Officer sitting on the Committee that deals with problems that mainly stem from our Client's parents. The Committee are reasonably well supported, but, of course, would never say no to more volunteers to help with fundraising to secure funding for our client's leisure activities.
We are at the moment waiting to hear from the Lottery to see if we have been successful with an application for lottery funds for a new minibus. This would make life a little easier for our clients to come to their leisure club.
Also during the school holidays, we run a CLASIC club for younger children. This club is run by leader Chris Drane and the children engage in play, creative and therapeutic activities. We hope this will grow as it is only about 18 months old. Again volunteers are needed to run this..
