WHAT IS THE PROJECT?
Members of the Clacton Rotary Club will be leading a group of Tendring Explorer Scouts and supervisors to an isolated orphanage in Krasne Pole to refurbish the eleven bedrooms occupied by the children, by redecorating and supplying and fitting new carpets, curtains and furniture.
WHERE IS KRASNE POLE?
A small isolated village in South West Poland within yards of the Czechoslovakian border.
WHY THIS ORPHANAGE?
Clacton Rotary Club has been involved with Polish orphanages for the past ten years , and in particular in Namyslow, near Wroclaw, working in conjunction with colleagues from the Dutch Rotary Club of Het Westland. Over that period we have witnessed a general improvement in conditions of the orphanages near the large towns. Away from the more heavily populated areas it is a different story. The Krasne Pole orphanage is in an isolated rural area some 15k from the small town of Pietrowice. The largest employer in the area is a tank factory, but this is threatened with closure, leaving the community reliant on subsistence farming and the prospects of continuing high unemployment. There has been little investment in this orphanage since it was built and the corruption during the communist era and for a period after its demise saw even less being spent. They are in need of help.
