What is Rotary? Many people are aware of Rotary but have little knowledge
about it and that’s one of the faults of the organisation. You can become
a member by invitation only but you can promote yourself by making
yourself known to a member!
The rules are few, apart from being a law abiding citizen, you must be in
a position of at least management at your workplace and be able to attend
regularly the weekly lunches, which with this Club is on Thursdays. Leave
can be granted for holidays and other good reasons.
You must be willing to join in the club activities which range from
collecting cash in the shopping centre to helping serve the Christmas
lunch to the lonely and disabled. Rotary is a service organisation where
we try to assist the local community with our expertise from our work and
hobbies. We do raise a lot of money for our own schemes but we are not a
source of revenue for other clubs whom we consider able to raise funds
themselves by their own efforts.
Rotary is world-wide with about 1.5 million members including the Russian States
and now China.
Clubs must be dual gender, all colours, creeds and political persuasions.
Established 100 years ago in the USA with the Clacton-on-Sea Club
celebrated its 75th birthday in November last year. The membership
numbers about 40 representing a cross section of the professions and
businesses in the area from Doctors to Shopkeepers even to Caravan Park
Administrators.
