PROGRAMME - Introductory Workshops for
Beginners
The
following workshops are ideal for complete beginners who have always wanted to
explore their artistic abilities. Our
friendly and supportive tutor will encourage you to have a go and develop your
natural talents. You are welcome to
attend just one or all of the workshops.

Introduction
to Painting & Drawing (5 wks) – Thursday 6/11/08 – 4/12/08 (7-9 pm)
This
introductory course is suitable for adults of all ages. You will soon learn the basics of how to draw
with pencils and charcoal and how to paint with pastels. Please bring the following equipment with you
to the first session – A2 drawing pad of cartridge paper, 2B pencil and eraser.
Introduction
to Water Colours (5 wks) – Thursday 15/1/09 – 12/2/09 (7-9 pm)
This
course will introduce you to the basic skills and techniques required when
working with water colours. Suitable for
complete beginners and those who have attended the introductory painting and
drawing workshop above. You will learn
about colour theory, how to use colour washes and various other techniques
required for basic water colour painting.
Please bring the following equipment with you to the first session – A4
pad of water colour paper, box of water colour paints, 3 water colour brushes;
small, medium, large and a small bottle of masking fluid.
Introduction
to Portraiture (5 wks) – Thursday 26/2/09 – 26/3/09 (7-9 pm)
Our
third introductory course - suitable for complete beginners and those who have
attended the Painting and Drawing or Water Colour workshops above. You will learn about proportion, how to paint
and draw the face from different angles and how to use pencils, charcoal and
pastels effectively. Please bring the
following equipment with you to the first session – A4 sketch book, box of soft
pastels (not oil pastels please) and a 2B pencil. Charcoal and paper will be provided.
PHOTOGRAPHY
WORKSHOP
Traditional
Black and White Photography (10 wks) – Wednesday 15/1/09 – 26/3/09 (7-9 pm)
This
course will appeal to those who are complete beginners as well as those with
some experience of photography. Come
along and rediscover the appeal of traditional black and white/silver based
photography. You will learn how to
expose, develop and process black and white photographs using 35mm film or
medium format. This course will also include
traditional dark room skills of dodging and burning when enlarging prints. Please bring your own FILM camera with
you. Your tutor will advise you about
purchase of materials and other equipment at the first session.
